JJK: How Did Todo Get His Cursed Technique & His Hand Back?

I was one of those people who mourned when Todo lost his arm, and subsequently admitted that Boogie Woogie cursed technique was dead in Shibuya.

Mahito truly was the target of all my negative emotions back then.

True, there were theories that Todo might come back all guns blazing, pulling a Netero from Hunter x Hunter.

However, Todo missing from the Culling Games made me lose hope of being able to see him and his Boogie Woogie technique in action again.

But then, it seems like Gege Akutami had other plans in store for us readers.

Come JJK chapter 259, Todo not only appeared at Shinjuku to give hopes to Itadori in the fight against Sukuna, it was also revealed that his cursed technique Boogie Woogie had returned somehow.

Todo’s appearance on the battlefield was similar to the one at Shibuya, motivating a hopeless Yuji, who was down in the dumps after Choso’s death!

As they both team up to fight Sukuna, a question naturally comes to our mind. How did Todo get his cursed technique back?

After all, he was the one who claimed that his Boogie Woogie cursed technique was dead, back in JJK chapter 132. Then how on earth did this happen?

Before the asspull allegations take over, let’s try to get a better understanding of the situation here!!

How did Todo get his cursed technique ‘Boogie Woogie’ back?

Based on what we saw in JJK chapter 259, Todo getting back his cursed technique had something to do with the the makeshift arm he had.

While we don’t know for sure what’s under the bandages, it certainly is a major factor in Todo getting back his Boogie Woogie technique.

After all, his technique is activated by clapping.

The reason why Todo said he couldn’t use Boogie Woogie back in Shibuya was because he had lost his arm.

Now that he had some sort of solution for the problem, it seems that the technique had returned to him.

And thanks to this makeshift arm, Todo could still feel the “beat” of the Boogie Woogie in chapter 259, as opposed to how he claimed that his technique was dead in Shibuya!

Todo's cursed technique is back

The best part? Todo was ripping off those bandages as he prepared to face-off against Sukuna with Itadori. So it might not be long before we know what exactly lies underneath.

However, we sure can speculate a bit right? Let’s take a look at what might have happened:

Todo used RCT to get his arm back:

Todo reattaching his arm and healing it using RCT is the obvious explanation for how he got his arm back.

It also explains why he has the bandages on them!

To understand that, let’s take a look at how Todo lost his arm.

In the fight against Mahito, the cursed spirit opened a Domain Expansion of 0.2 seconds.

Even though Todo used a simple domain, Mahito’s sure hit still affected his arm.

And before the effects of Idle Transfiguration could affect his whole body, Todo cuts off his arm in order to reduce the damages.

We even see his disfigured arm in chapter 130.

Given how Todo doesn’t have the same RCT output as Yuta, Hakari or Gojo, it was always an outer possibility that he would regenerate his arm.

However, I feel that in a bid to restore his cursed technique, Todo reattached his disfigured arm with the help of Shoko.

Since Shoko was present at Shibuya, and it was the quickest fix to save his cursed technique, this assumption makes sense.

Clapping or the act of applause is essential for Todo to activate his cursed technique, and having an arm, even if disfigured is a bonus!

The reason why his arm was in bandages could be because it is still disfigured, as the effects of Idle Transfiguration can’t be fixed using RCT!

However, Gege is quite an artist at subverting our expectations, and so it’s possible we get something entirely new as a reason here.

Just like how Itadori’s arms have transformed, mostly due to a cursed tool, Todo too could be equipped with a cursed tool as a substitute for his arm.

The downside here would be the bandages.

Why would Todo’s arm be wrapped in them if he was equipped with a cursed tool?

Well, we need to wait another week to get our answers.

Yuta’s role & asspull allegations:

Judging from the contents of JJK 259, Todo had quite an important role to play in the Shinjuku battle, especially when it came to saving the skins of fellow jujutsushis from Sukuna’s domain.

The role was kept a secret from Itadori, due to the fear of Resonance leaking their plan to Sukuna.

However, Yuta also seemed to have played some sort of a role in Todo refining his cursed technique in the aftermath of the Shibuya incident.

Once again, due to the limited information available, all we can do is speculate.

What exactly did the fine-tuning of his cursed technique ensue?

Did Yuta help Todo to increase the range of Boogie Woogie? Or help him target multiple people with his cursed technique?

Yuta’s Copy technique is a buff that surely has the potential to decide the outcome of the battle.

It is possible that Yuta copied Todo’s Boogie Woogie, to keep it as a worthy tool in his arsenal!

This would explain how he was able to catch Kenjaku off-guard, and also add more weight to the theories about him shifting positions during that fight.

It is possible that Todo himself was present there, helping Yuta, since his discussion with Mei Mei also included the plan with Yuta being sent to take down Kenjaku.

This is where I want to address the asspull allegations.

The above instance involving Kenjaku is enough to prove that Gege had foreshadowed Todo’s involvement in the battle.

The only thing remaining is for us to get a satisfactory explanation for how he got his cursed technique and his hand back.
