A Miku Who Can’t Sing Will Have A Global Release

The previously announced Gekijouban Project Sekai: Kowareta Sekai to Utaenai Miku anime movie will have an international release with the title of Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing.

There’s no firm release date for the film’s global release yet, only a “coming soon” (the Japanese premiere will be on January 17, 2025 JST). In the meantime, Hatsune Miku and/or Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! fans can watch an English-subtitled version of the Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing trailer.

Here’s the official synopsis in English:

“Tell me more… about you. Maybe then… I will know how to sing.”

Ichika Hoshino hears a song by Miku that she has never heard before at a music store. She finds “Hatsune Miku,” who she has never seen before in the TV screen, and says aloud “Miku!?”. Although their eyes meet, Miku is startled by Ichika’s voice and disappears.

Later, after Ichika finishes her street performance, Miku appears again in Ichika’s smartphone. Ichika asks the sad looking Miku what is troubling her and finds out that there are people who Miku wants to deliver her song to, but no matter how much she sings, her voice won’t reach them.

After seeing Ichika reach people’s hearts with her song, Miku thinks that she can do the same by learning more about Ichika. Ichika smiles and agrees to help. Join Miku and her friends as a new story begins!

Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing is inspired by the Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! (Project Sekai Colorful Stage Feat. Hatsune Miku) rhythm game, which originally launched for iOS and Android on September 30, 2020 before getting a Western release in December 2021. It is a spin-off of Sega‘s Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA series and features a few other virtual singers, such as Kagamine Rin and Len, in addition to Miku. The game’s story premise is described as:

A mysterious song named “Untitled” with no melody or lyrics is passed around amongst the youth in Shibuya, Tokyo.

This song unlocks access to “SEKAI”, a mysterious place that allows everyone to discover their true emotions and their own song.
