Southeast Asian anime fans will be able to catch the anime film adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto‘s Look Back one-shot in local theaters, if recent posts by movie distributor Encore Films are any indication.
Encore Films’ Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam social media pages have posted Look Back‘s teaser visual with the caption, “Happy weekend everyone!! Do you know which anime movie is this? Be the first to tell us!” They also come with the hashtag #superexcited.
The same post was made by Encore Films India.
The Look Back movie was announced in February with a June 28 Japanese release date. The film is produced by Studio Durian with its representative director Kiyotaka Oshiyama (Flip Flappers director, Chainsaw Man devil designer) serving as director, scriptwriter, and character designer. Yumi Kawai and Mizuki Yoshida are voicing the main characters Ayumu Fujino and Kyomoto, respectively.
The movie will be screened at Annecy Festival 2024 as part of the Annecy Presents selection lineup.
The original one-shot was released in July 2021. It can be read in English on Manga Plus, which describes it as:
Fujino is a fourth grader who draws a manga strip for the school newspaper. Her art makes her the star of the class, but one day she’s told that Kyomoto, a student who refuses to come to school, would also like to submit a manga for the paper…
