Golden Kamuy Movie Gets Drama Series Sequel

The live-action adventures of Saichi Sugimoto and Asirpa, which started with January’s Golden Kamuy movie, will continue in a newly announced WOWOW drama series.

Part 1 of the Golden Kamuy series will premiere in Japan in autumn with the title of Renzoku Drama W Golden Kamuy -Hokkaido Shisei Shuujin Soudatsu-hen- (Scramble for the Hokkaido Tattooed Prisoners Arc). The movie’s Shigeaki Kubo is directing the show with three others. Also returning are scriptwriter Tsutomu Kuroiwa and music composer Yutaka Yamada, with the latter being joined this time by a co-composer.

The Shueisha-published Golden Kamuy manga by Satoru Noda was serialized in Weekly Young Jump from 2014 to 2022 and has been collected into 31 tankoubon volumes. An anime adaptation began in 2018 and is getting a fifth season titled Golden Kamuy: The Final Chapter

Viz describes the manga as:

In the early twentieth century, Russo-Japanese War veteran Saichi “Immortal” Sugimoto scratches out a meager existence during the postwar gold rush in the wilderness of Hokkaido. When he stumbles across a map to a fortune in hidden Ainu gold, he sets off on a treacherous quest to find it. But Sugimoto is not the only interested party, and everyone who knows about the gold will kill to possess it! Faced with the harsh conditions of the northern wilderness, ruthless criminals and rogue Japanese soldiers, Sugimoto will need all his skills and luck—and the help of an Ainu girl named Asirpa—to survive.
