Magia Record Game To End Services in July

The Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story spin-off game will end its service this July. The PC browser version on DMM will cease on July 1 at 3 PM JST, while the iOS and Android version will meet the same fate on July 31 at 3 PM JST.

An “archive app” will be prepared for players to continue viewing unlocked information regarding the Magical Girls, Memoria, Doppels, and Witches/Rumors after the shutdown. Additionally, it will allow players to verify linking codes for the upcoming Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra game. This code is meant for transfer and shared ID purposes.

Magia Record was launched for mobile devices in Japan in 2017, and on DMM in 2019. There was also an English version that was shut down in 2020. The f4samurai-developed game follows Magical Girl Iroha Tamaki as she searches for the whereabouts of her sister in the city of Kamihama. The original Puella Magi Madoka Magica characters also exist in this setting.

A Shaft-produced anime adaptation started in 2020 and ended in 2022 with three “seasons.” The length of the last two seasons — eight episodes for Season 2 and four for Final Season — coupled with production quality drops, suggest that the existence of the third “season” was owed to production issues.

Crunchyroll describes the Magia Record anime as:

In exchange for the fulfillment of a wish, Magical Girls keep fighting, unbeknownst to the rest of the world. But Iroha Tamaki can’t seem to remember her wish. “When I became a Magical Girl, what did I wish for again?” There is a gaping hole in her life. Something important has been lost. But she continues to fight every day, without even knowing why… Then, a rumor begins to spread among Magical Girls. “Magical Girls can be saved if they go to Kamihama.” Kamihama City, the city where Magical Girls and Uwasa are gathering. The story of Iroha Tamaki, in search of her lost wish, begins…
